Notes from Dusk Desk - Story 10

(Beep. Music fades in.)

Hey, I got your message. And for once I feel like an expert. I mean, for a while, this was my whole aesthetic, for lack of a better word. And okay, granted it is weird to make this a personality trait, but this was in college when I was trying to sort out a lot of things, not least of which being the collective details that make up my identity. I hardly knew anything about myself, but I did know the power of compassion and the value of small acts of giving. I knew those things sustained me when I personally felt like I was drowning.

So I, of course, was grateful. And I would say that to them, whoever they were who gave me that kindness. Or I would try to express it. I was always worried, though, that I was doing something that wasn’t wrong, per say, but it was different. I guess I was worried that I wasn’t being understood. Because I couldn’t really explain it. But this is one way of doing so, though it might be a bit roundabout. Also, it is super nice to know I’m not alone in this. That other people have this question, specifics notwithstanding.

But for now, dear student, who I once was, honor generosity.
